After holding Toastmasters leadership roles for many years, Gregg says:
"I still have a lot to offer and I want to present myself for service."
"Last year I was approached to work on one of Toastmasters International Committees. I agreed and was fascinated by what was discussed and all of the things I learned. This committee worked so well, after 6 months when it was time for the committee to end, none of us wanted it to end. So, I got a taste of what it was like to work as an ID on an International Committee for 6 months. I already know what's involved. I understand the time commitment and what is expected of me. I'm running to finish what I started."
How can we continue to help and serve others?
How can we expand the Toastmasters global footprint?
Gregg Thompson, DTM, has been involved in Toastmasters since 2007 and has served in many leadership roles in Districts 30 and 103 in the greater Chicago area.
He has been in the telecommunications industry for more than 24 years, working for AT&T. Starting as Network Systems Engineer, he's currently an Information Systems Technician. Gregg joined the AT&T corporate club in 2007. He’s also a member of a community club, Broadview #3303, and has held club leader roles in this high-performing club.
He won the District 30 International Speech contest in 2009-2010. After the experience of winning speech contests, he embraced additional leadership roles.
What’s the next step after holding club officer roles? District leadership! Gregg was an Area Governor in District 30, and when District 103 was created in 2017, he became Club Growth Director (CGD) in 2019-2020, Program Quality Director (PQD) in 2020-21, and District Director (DD) in 2021-22, after which he fulfilled the responsibilities of the Immediate Past District Director (IPDD) role in 2022-23.
Gregg got involved in Toastmasters while succeeding as a sales executive in his telecommunications/IT career. He needed to do sales presentations in front of large audiences. That’s where his fear of public speaking was highlighted in 2007 — and a new Toastmaster was born.
